Costa Rica Day 3: Coronado & Dancing

Today was another amazing day in Costa Rica!  However, it was much colder in Coronado than yesterday!

First, I must start with an image from last night.  On our way to dinner, our bus was stopped in traffic, so our fearless leader, Mark Shook, took the bus mic and led us all in bus karaoke.  Seriously, we ALL had to take turns singing into the bus microphone.  Our poor driver(!).  Mark was very entertained!

A few people back home had mentioned they had never seen the orphanage they have been praying for!  So here is a shot of the living room and dining room of the boys’ home. This is currently the girls’ home – the front home of the property.  Notice the sign, “Excelencia Familiar” and also a sign by the door, “Hijos Del Rey” (Sons and Daughters of The King).  Very fitting!!Jenny and Ariana mixed up more concrete to fill in our steps we dug around the property yesterday. This is Antonio.  He is a missionary working with Steve (Lalo) in La Carpio.  He can outwork anyone!!  He never quits!!  The Shooks met him when he was 17 (16 years ago!) and have had the privelege of watching God work in his life!Inside the girls’ house, more face painting!!  Apparently, it was a hit yesterday!  This little beauty looks like an ice princess! The little ones couldn’t wait to rush to the mirror to look at the beautiful artwork on their faces!Lindsay and her new friend!  This is love.Back outside, Ashley made friends with this little guy.  Usually, I HATE bugs, but I am loving the creatures here!  They do not look like the bugs in Houston.  Here, they are all so colorful!!  Butterflies always remind me of God’s ability to take something ugly and plain and turn it into something so beautiful!  A perfect image to reflect God’s work at the orphanage in Coronado!Samantha swinging with her friends… TWINS!!  Precious girls!!  They loved Sam!The older kids loved playing soccer against the gringos… and better yet, BEATING the gringos!!! :)I got to play with this little girl for a few minutes.  Thank you Chaco for grabbing my camera!!  A sweet memory! As the last bit of concrete was poured on some of the steps, Carly, Laura and Ariana decided to leave our mark in Coronado with handprints and “COF” forever etched into the new steps leading to the playground! For dinner, we drove up the mountain (and up, and up, and up!) to a wonderful restaurant overlooking the entire city of San Jose, the capital city of Costa Rica!  The city lights were mesmerizing!!  After dinner, we all stood at the fence and spent some time praying over San Jose.  To our left, La Carpio.  To our right, Coronado.  Amazing.  I love this shot of two of my heroes and friends, Mark and Laura Shook.I also love this shot of old friends, Nathan and Kaycee White, who are working so diligently with Excelencia Familiar in Coronado! After dinner, we were entertained by some traditional dancing.  I loved the bright colors and flowy skirts of the dancers!!And of course, when the dancers got to choose participants from the crowd, Mark was chosen (as was Samantha and Mary-Beth, and for another dance: Blake, Carly and MYSELF!!).  He was the crowd favorite!!Tomorrow, we get to go back to La Carpio one last time to see our friends!!  Then we will head to Los Lagos and hopefully get to see the volcano erupting!  As always, thanks for your encouragement and prayers!!  We are having an amazing experience here in the beautiful Costa Rica!!

Such beautiful pictures! I love the one of you with the little girl with the rainbow on her face. Rainbows remind us that God keeps his promises. :-) The dancing one of Mark is priceless too!
